Kitchen Essentials

The right kitchen gear can be a life saver. We’ve always lived in small spaces with limited storage space, so having a bunch of gizmos and gadgets gathering dust in the cupboard just won’t work in our home. When we buy kitchen tools and appliances they MUST serve a serious purpose. At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, the items listed below are the best of the best. We have spent a lot of time researching and testing variances methods and could not live without the following magical kitchen essentials!

Perfectly pulled chicken – thank you instant pot!

Instant Pot – Pressure cooker / best investment ever. This is like a slow cooker on steroids. It can be used pretty much the same way, but FASTER. For example, it will cook short ribs that would usually take 8 hrs in about 30 mins. AMAZING! Another feature we love is that you can sautee which makes a huge difference for chili or anything with meat / onions (basically, everything)

Electric Kettle – No brainer if you make a lot of pasta, hardboiled eggs, tea / coffee. Basically anything that requires boiling water. Every kitchen in Europe has one, but for some reason they never caught on in America. Let’s start a trend, people!

Ricemaker – This one took some convincing for me. We got it before we had our baby and we weren’t eating a ton of rice at the time, but we were looking for ways to cut costs. Adding rice / quinoa to any dish instantly bulks it up and allows for more leftovers. Cha-ching. I give Joel rice / quinoa with pretty much every dinner, because we’re all about those slow release carbs before bedtime.

Quality Knives – Mark mostly uses a Wusthof (serious chef’s knife), but I love our Pure Komachi set for day-to-day chopping. They are lightweight and less intimidating than the Wusthof / Global, but still cut like a BOSS. We got them as a wedding gift and fell in love. As an added bonus, they come with cute little matching sheaths. Great baby proofing and for when you want to take an avocado on a road trip. We do this all time. Perfectly normal, right?

Dash Rapid Egg Cooker – Makes the perfect hard boiled faster than it takes to boil a pot of water on the stove. Add more or less water if you firm eggs or soft and runny (yes please!). I’ll admit I was a little skeptical about this one at first. When Mark bought the Dash, I didn’t think we would use it. I mean how hard is it to hard boil an egg? It’s not, but the amazing thing about the Dash is that the eggs are perfect every time and you don’t have to watch the pot! We eat A LOT of hard boiled eggs and literally could not live without this egg cooker. I mean, what doesn’t taste better with an egg on top?
